Merchant Of Venice Essay
... villainous towards Launcelot by acting belligerent
towards him.
"Who bids thee call? I do not bid thee call." 2
Shylock mistreats this man because of his poverty, and because Launcelot is
socially beneath him. You also start to wonder about how fair Shylock is,
when Launcelot is deciding whether or not to leave him.
Shylock also mistreats his own daughter, Jessica. He mistreats her
by keeping her as a captive in her own house, not letting her out, and not
letting her hear the Christian music around her. He orders her to:
"Lock up my doors; and when you hear the drum...
..But stop my house's ears-I mean casements. ...

Saint Joan's Tragic Flaw: The Epilogue
... have been inserted skillfully into the body of the play with
greater dramatic effect. It seems almost as if Shaw was afraid that his
audience would not understand the play and he felt compelled to make his
ideas clearer in the epilogue.
The action of the epilogue takes place 25 years after Joan has been
burned. King Charles has a dream in which many of the characters of the
play appear. These characters, including Joan, either explain their
behavior that we've seen throughout the play or relate some historical fact
that Shaw must have seen as necessary for the audience to be aware of. The
first character that appears at Charles' bed is Brother Martin Ladvenu, ...

Shylock Is The Villian In Shakespeare's Merchant Of Venice
... daughter runs
away from home with Lorenzo, a Christian, and takes her father's ducats
with her. When Antonio's ships do not come in and he is not able to repay
the loan Shylock is no longer interested in getting his money back.
Shylock want revenge for the loss of his daughter through the fulfillment
of the bond. In court Shylock is defeated because of his selfishness.
Shakespeare also shows the human qualities of Shylock throughout
the play. Shakespeare brings out these human qualities by causing us to
feel sympathy for him. After the loss of his daughter Shylock ran through
the streets crying “My daughter! O my ducats! O my daughter!” as children

Compare And Contrast: Oedipus And Othello
... three sides by the audience. Except for the backdrop which would have some
element of scenery, the stage itself would be bare apart from a few scenic
elements and props. Othello, like most of Shakespeare's plays, had what is
called an abstract setting. That is a setting in which the locale may change
rapidly, it may not be indicated by the script that it has changed, and was most
likely suggested by a few props. Abstract settings place more emphasis on the
language and the performer, which causes the spectator to use their imagination.
It also places more emphasis on costuming. This type of setting helped set up
the style of representational theater, wh ...

The Madness Of Prince Hamlet
... is not present, however, at the start of the play.
In the first act Hamlet appears to be very straightforward in his actions and inner state. When questioned by Gertrude about his melancholy appearance Hamlet says, ÊSeems, madam? Nay it is. I know not ÈseemsiË (1.2.76). This is to say ÊI am what I appear to be.Ë Later he makes a clear statement about his state when he commits himself to revenge. In this statement the play makes an easy to follow shift. This shift consists of Hamlet giving up the role of a student and mourning son. Hamlet says,
I'll wipe away all trivial fond records,
All saws of books, all forms, all pressures past,
That youth and observation c ...

Movie Review: Dangerous Minds
... flunking educational system and students who know to trust no one
and count on nothing.
Dangerous Minds portrays a true depiction of this country's
flunking educational system. The movie is mostly about life when you have
nowhere to turn. In the movie, the students are expected to fail and if it
were not for the determination of LouAnne Johnson these students probably
would have failed. At the beginning of the movie it shows how two teachers
have already quit their job at this school and had given up on these
students. Many educational stereotypes are out in today's world, which
makes people believe that these students do not want to learn or just do
not ...

Macbeth: Corruption
... become a powerful
foe.
The reason why corruption has become a problem is because it's fair to become
greedy for more. And soon it gets out of control and now you have a corrupted
person who in order to change would have to step out of power and become a
person who doesn't control.
Nothing can really be done to sustain it or avoid it, if you take a corrupt
person in power and replace a fair and just person. Sooner or later they also
become corrupt. You just have to assume and hope the replacement will be a fair
person.
In the tradgity "Macbeth" there are many examples of corruption. When Macbeth
became Thane of Cowdor his wife, Lady Macbeth, was very delight ...

To Kill A Mockingbird: A Movie Review
... a lawyer, who has currently been given a large court
case in Maycomb; defending a black man. Most of the film centres around
the trial of Tom Robinson, the black man charged with rape. The message it
portrays is one of what parts of society were very racist, and quite strict.
I feel that the lines in the movie are mostly believable, for the most part.
It is obvious that some of the phrases that were used by the children are
slightly forced, and unnatural. The language and vocabulary that were
utilized throughout the film I found to be fitting the characters. With
the acting, I was not impressed, however. It seemed to me that the acting
was very novice and a ...
