Everyone In A Man For All Seasons Is Pursuing Their Own Ends. What Makes More Different?
... He executes selfless acts in order to do what he knows is legal,
and what he thinks is right. He is one of very few people who have died with
their integrity intact. He is a special man, who is steadfast in upholding his
principles, even when death breathes down his neck. Sir Thomas More truly is a
paragon.
One character in the play particularly concerned with his goals, regardless of
the path he must take to reach them is Thomas Cromwell. Cromwell is the
personification of pragmatism and is willing to do anything, providing the end
sees him satisfied. "…our job as administrators is to make it as convenient as
we can," Cromwell states in reference to the Kin ...

Mask Theme In Hamlet
... as if their existence was without and cruelty. And finally Hamlet hides behind his madness, be it real or pretend, a person who is indecisive and spiteful. Masks in this play are not just a theme; they are the whole basis of it.
The mask theme develops throughout the play as various characters try to cover their secret intentions with a veneer of a whole other person. One of the most obvious, of course is Claudius. Claudius murdered his brother, the former king Hamlet, in order to become king himself. This murder, which was done in secret, with no one but Cladius knowing that the act was committed by him. Not only is he the King of Denmark, but he is also marrie ...

“The Role Of Symbolism In A Streetcar Named Desire”
... denies being a drinker, even though Stella did not accuse her of it. This quote demonstrates that Blanche is a liar, lying to her own sister. Blanche is described as wearing “her silk brassiere and white skirt”(50) symbolizing peace and her moth-like appearance, although everywhere she goes, she causes problems. Blanche describes to Stanley that her astrological sign is “Virgo the Virgin”(77), meaning that she is chaste, despite the fact that she seduced her seventeen year-old student. Although Blanche “is about five years older than Stella”(15), she lies about her age because she does not want anyone to know the truth about her.

Oedipus Rex: Oedipus Deserves His Fate
... it did not say, "If you do so-and-so you will kill your father," it simply said "You will kill your father and sleep with your mother." The ancients believed that whatever an Oracle predicts was bound to happen. Oedipus does what he can to evade his destiny, he resolves never to see his supposed parents again. But it is quite certain from the first that his best efforts will fail.
Others would argue that because Oedipus was a tyrannical ruler and didn't make the best choices in life, he deserved to suffer. E. R. Dodds states that, "Oedipus' behavior on the stage reveals the man he always was: he was punished for his basically unsound character." I ...

Elements Of Masque In The Tempest
... makes extensive use of costume, dance and music, as the spirits enter in the form of shapeless creatures and Ariel is the form of a harpy. The masque within the play in Act IV requires elaborate costumes for the goddesses and, ideally, machinery for Juno to descend as deus ex machina with. It also involves great amounts of song and dance. The entire play makes extensive use of music, with Ariel's songs and Prospero's charms as well as the "sweet airs" of the island itself. Being non-human, Caliban, Ariel and the spirits require elaborate costume to make them appear so, and the court party members are decked in their finest court apparel, having just been at Clarib ...
