Frankenstein: Good And Bad Choices
... his job or task was to create man.
After creating the man, Prometheus felt it his job to protect his creation.
In doing so, he gave fire to man that he had stolen from Zeus. From
Prometheus's actions he suffered for the rest of eternity. When Victor
Frankenstein made his being, he made a choice to "animate lifeless clay and
body-parts", to become a being. The choice he made would haunt him for the
rest of his life. When Zeus finds out that Prometheus has stolen his fire,
he took Prometheus to a top of a mountain and chains him to the mountain.
Every day an eagle comes down and rips him open and eats his insides.
During the night Prometheus would recover during t ...

The Odyssey: Odysseus
... and caution. He is great at disguises, capable of concealing his
feelings, and a fast, inventive liar: heroic qualities that got him through
his adversities. Odysseus is also very human, and the reader can see these
many qualities as well. He is often moved to tears. He makes mistakes,
gets himself into tricky situations, and loses his temper. We see him play
not only a hero but also a husband, father, and son. He takes on the very
human roles of athlete, warrior, sailor, storyteller, carpenter, beggar,
and lover. He vividly displays human qualities like brutality and boldness,
while being sensitive and shy at the same time. It is these human
quali ...

Analysis Of Chris Marker's "La Jetee", And Roland Barthes's "Camera Lucida"
... the same
ideas upon which they can differ is an amazing similarity. Perhaps every
single major idea Barthes addresses in his novel I can find addressed in La
Jetee. Because of this fact, and because of the power of both works, I was
led at the end of my research to some new, yet fundamental ideas about the
nature of photography itself.
One of the most interesting aspects of this study, and also the
most challenging, is the nature of Marker's “film” itself. Simply the fact
that I have to put the word film in quotes when applying it to La Jetee is
perhaps the strongest evidence of the enigma that this film has been
throughout its history. What exactly is la Jetee ...

Mary Astell's From A Serious Proposal To The Ladies
... from developing their minds. She
felt that females back then should have the same rights as women have achieved
through the Civil Rights Movement today. Her answer to this was "A Religious
Retirement." It is Mary Astell's ideal place to end her intellectual suffering
and open new doors for the female mind. I feel that Mary went a little to far
with this idea. She wanted to segregate males and females, live in a convent,
and find alternates to marriage for women, which, I guess, would be the same as
living in a convent. Mary was a feminist which I feel lead her to be so
aggressive in this proposal, but I can understand why she is mad. I would feel
the same way if ...

The Scarlet Letter: Symbolism Of The Scarlet Letter
... great deal of mental and physical anguish. Eventually, Hester questioned why she was to live if not for her child Pearl. Pearl was a gift sent from god to remind her of her wrong doing every moment. A symbolic way to look at it is that she was a walking, talking live sermon preaching out against sin to others.
With that said, Pearl’s personality was also shown very well throughout the movie. Her exuberant disposition caused the townspeople to believe she was a “mysterious little elf”. One could tell at times she was the exact opposite of the Puritanical ways. Pearl’s taunting and malicious character sometimes caused Hester to make unwise remarks such as, “Tho ...

Crucible 4
... committed, Abigail committed a sin of the same kind and
more. Abigail and Hester both knew that what they did was wrong. Hester
took the blame and did not lie about what happened. Abigail lied and made
her friends lie just so she would not get in trouble for her sin. Abigail's
behavior and involvement of others created a more complex reason to judge
her as less respectable of the two.
Hester was not secretive about committing her crime as Abigail was.
Abigail is even described as "an orphan with an endless capacity for
dissembling" (page 9). This proves that she tried to cover up her actions.
Hester did not try to hide the fact from the townspeop ...

"Evil Is The Underlying Element In Life Of A Living Creature"
... Unbroken, all convey the idea that hatred, which
develops out of the evil within man's heart, can only lead to destruction.
In Christine Sparks' novel, The Elephant Man, many of the characters
express hatred towards a character referred to as the Elephant Man. One of
the first characters introduced in the play is Mr. Bytes, the keeper of
John Merrick (the "Elephant Man"). Bytes continually beats Merrick like he
would an animal and he uses Merrick to gain money by performing at "freak
shows". Because of his appearance, society views Merrick as an outcast.
Furthermore, Bytes expresses his frustration towards Merrick by beating up
the "Elephant Man". Another cha ...

A Midsummer Nights Dream
... all that love is gone. My heart to her but as guest- wise sojourned, And now to Helen is it home returned, There to remain." This proves he is a fool, because he is not aware of his changing love for Helena.
Helena is a fool because Demetrius does not love her but she still persists in chasing him. Demetrius shows no love for Helena. (II i,line 227-228) Demetrius says, "I'll run from thee, and hide me in the brakes, And leave thee to the mercy of wild beasts." (II i,line 199-201) "Do I entice you? Do I speak you fair? Or rather do I not in plainest truth Tell you I do not, nor I cannot love you?" Demetrius clearly illustrates to Helena that he has no interest, b ...

... of Rodion and . ’s “life was as dark and dramatic as the great novels he wrote.” Born in Moscow in 1821, he was the son of a former army surgeon who was killed by his own serfs because of his alcoholism and the brutality that followed his drinking fits. He was never close to his father possibly because of alcoholism, this is creates a hatred towards fatherly figures. The only father seen in the novel, Marmeladov, is a drunkard and is portrayed as a “dead-beat” dad, who only drank and did not tend to his family’s need, but instead added to their misfortunes. Alcoholism is a massive problem that is mentioned in the book amon ...

20,000 Leagues
... almost entirely this! However, the setting and characters of the story seemed to be well thought out. Nevertheless, under the Sea was an extremely tedious volume. When the story was introduced, Jules Verne described M. Aronnax, the main character, whose love for marine biology was more important than anything else to him did. This immediately led to the international crisis about a bizarre aquatic creature, which immediately dragged M. Aronnax into the action. Due to his expertise on the matter, the public expected Pierre to be the one to solve this mystery. M. Aronnax, under all this pressure, concluded that the animal was to be called the Narwhale. At first, ...
