Assisted Suicide
... suicide. Secondly we will look at ways
assistance has played in the area of suicide. Next, we'll look at what the
constitution says and see if any of the states have allowed suicide.
Finally, we'll study some of the cases that have been brought before the
American courts.
Suicide has become a big part of American society, year after year
more people are taking their own lives for many different reasons. A lot
of philosophers have broken down all the reasons of suicides into two
different categories, rational suicide and irrational suicide. A rational
suicide has been given five basic criteria that usually must be met for the
person's act to be consider ...

Partial-Birth Abortion And Its Affect On The American People
... and ended the infant's life forever. Partial-birth
abortion is a topic that has caused a massive controversy in the past few years.
In September, 1993, Brenda Pratt Shafer, a registered nurse with thirteen years
of experience, was assigned by her nursing agency to an abortion clinic. Since
Nurse Shafer considered herself to be "very pro-choice," she didn't think this
assignment would be a problem. She was wrong. This is what Nurse Shafer saw:
"I stood at the doctor's side and watched him perform a
partial-birth abortion on a woman who was six months
pregnant. The baby's heartbeat was clearly visible on the
ultrasound screen. ...

Euthanasia In Today's Society
... makes the decision to die, a type of suicide
actually. In today's world there are two types of euthanasia that are most
common. The first are people who, perhaps because of serious illness or perhaps
for reasons unrelated to their illness, are extremely depressed and say that
they want to die (Johanson 1). Research has shown that the vast majority of
these people are just asking for sympathy and don't really want to die but
rather hear the calls of there loved ones begging them not to go on with the
procedure. They want the attempt to fail. The second type of euthanasia involve
people who are suffering from an illness that makes them unable to communicate

People Vs. The Tobacco Industry
... “What is being done to decrease the number of smokers, complications, and deaths?”
People start smoking for their individual reasons. Some common reasons why a person may start smoking may be due to stress, peer pressure, or because the person wants to change his social status. The tobacco industry deceives people with their ads implying that cigarettes can relieve stress, help fit in, and even change the social status of men, women, and teens. A camel smoking a cigarette, wearing a leather jacket, with several beautiful ladies surrounding him portrays that smoking is for tough and outgoing ladies’ men. Models are used to illustrate that smoking will make women ...

Being A Virologist
... Well the reason for me is, I
find viruses fascinating. Trying to find cures for diseases like HIV and
the common cold. Yes, the common cold is caused by a virus. And there is
no cure for the common cold, just vaccines.
I don't know, and could not find that much information on exactly
how virologists find cures and vaccines. But I know that they need
antibodies to make these cures. And there are two primary ways of making
these antibodies. One, they can take them from patient zero. Patient
zero would be where the virus originated from.
Two, they could inject into an animal like a horse. If the animal,
horse creates antibodies to fight off the virus, we ...

... scars, or bacterial infection. The spots continue to break out from one to five days, so they may appear on the body in different stages.
The fever and malaise common in children with the disease is more serious in adults. Varicella can also cause 'Shingles' in adults. When people with suppressed immune systems are infected, the disease can become quite serious. If a pregnant woman contracts the disease during the first or second trimester there may be a congenital birth defect. If the disease is contracted within five days of birth the child risks being infected seriously with the disease and should be vaccinated immediately. The disease usually runs i ...

cancer. In 1989 Levine and Volgelstein found that the gene was responsible
for killing tumors. This is when cancer research took a turn and began to
focus on the “molecule of the year”, as proclaimed by Science magazine.
Recently, Nikola Pavelitch of New York's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center was able to get a photo of the gene, and she notices that when the
disease (cancer) is forming, rogue molecules are present that keep it from
performing its good deeds. There have since been 5,200 studies on p53 and
researchers are sure it will be a major discovery.
The p53's function is as the director to control damage within the
cell. When it is hea ...

Alcoholism
... Soviet Socialist
Republics, and many European nations. This is paralleled by growing evidence of
increasing numbers of alcohol-related problems in other nations, including the
Third World.
Development
Alcoholism, as opposed to merely excessive or irresponsible drinking, has been
variously thought of as a symptom of psychological or social stress or as a
learned, maladaptive coping behavior. More recently, and probably more
accurately, it has come to be viewed as a complex disease entity in its own
right. Alcoholism usually develops over a period of years. Early and subtle
symptoms include placing excessive importance on the availability of alcohol.
Ensuring this ...

at a holding facility broke out and had to be killed.
In the pursuit of a cure and an origin, there have beenseveral teams of
scientists whose top priority is to find theviruses origin(5). The teams have
trekked through the rainforests of Africa to collecting different species of
animals, bugs, and plant life. Bugs are also collected from the hospitals and
from the surrounding huts of the villages. So far 36,000specimens have been
collected. Once they have been gathered, the specimens are put into liquid
nitrogen and flown back to theUnited States, where they are studied ...

Euthanasia: People Should Have The Right To Choose
... effect over due to a terminal illness or otherwise life devastating
condition.
If a person is in unbearable pain and close to death or is in a
vegetable state and no longer able to function, their life is by all practical
means over. There is no reason to keep them alive. The only way to end their
physical life is by euthanasia. The question is whether to do this by way of
active euthanasia or passive euthanasia. Many are against active euthanasia
because in this case you actually kill the person rather than letting them die.
But both methods are used for the same end which is to end someone's life
without further pain for the patient as well as for the ...
