Ethics And Advertising
... false statements used in an effort to deceive, and all relevant information, the good and the bad, must be included in the statement. The evidence and reasoning supporting the claim [must be] clear, accurate, relevant, and sufficient in quantity. Advertisers assume that we have the rationality to make decisions based on the information we are given, but how can we possibly make a rational decision when much of the information is left out? Or when the information given are exaggerations or downright lies?
Advertisers should also provide the greatest good to the most people, not just the greatest number of products sold to the most people. With this in mind, I’d ...

Gender Role Socialization
... this has developed into a pattern over the past several hundred years, it is most easily compared to our parents about forty years ago. Parents would have children and expose them to hard labor, domestic responsibilities, and caring for the elderly at a young age. Specific responsibilities were given to the children based on their gender. Boys were subject to hard labor and tending to the “manly” elements, while girls mastered home economics in chores like sewing, cleaning, and cooking.
Although this society has experienced rapid chance over the past forty years, we still see some segregation in childhood behavior. Growing up for me was never easy. My respon ...

Goals And Accomplishing Your Dreams
... life is made up of.” This statement is true in
the sense that if you have dreams you have something to look forward to;
something to focus on; even something to live for. Knowing that you are a VIP
is important in the decision-making process.
To accomplish your dreams, you must first face adversity in the eye and
conquer your fears. For me personally, training to be a lawyer will take time
and commitment. I must constantly look at where I am now and evaluate where I
need to go from here. There will never be a time in your life where you are at
the top. You must keep climbing the ladder of success. Fortunately I know that.
I have a good G.P.A., but I know t ...

Intimacy
... than the way you would with someone
who you just randomly meet on the street. We shared common parents, household,
schedules, and heritage. Therefore, we were naturally inclined to develop some
sort of relationship and intimacy. If we hadn't, our living conditions would
have become understandably tenuous. The development of relationships and
intimacy has some very definitive steps. The first step is initiating which is
making contact with the other person and showing that you are the kind of person
worth talking to. Our relationship was initiated as soon as I was brought into
this world and facilitated by the fact that we were brother and sister. The

The First Account Of Censorship
... children.
The freedom of speech and freedom of the press, are right guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution. Certain groups and individuals continually challenge them. They seek to block what is considered bad from others view. They want to protect their children from bad things and surround their life with only the good.
comes when Samuel L. Clemens better known as mark Twain is considered to be a racist by some his well know novels The word censor comes from the Latin censere, which means "to count," as well as "to assess" or "estimate." Censorship is the control of communication between people. It's the restriction of viewing material du ...

Gay Marriages-Acceptable To God And America?
... out threats in a very offensive manner. As Debbie hurried us to her car, I felt extreme anger, coupled with increasing confusion as to why the men would yell and embarrass the lady that was so kind to me and my brother. What did Debbie and her “sister” do so wrong? Years later, I am convinced that Debbie and her “sister” were a lesbian couple, and the incident at the McDonald’s was a bunch of stupid, homophobic morons. These days crimes targeting gay and lesbian couples are heard on the news frequently, and it sickens me that such ignorance exists in America. I grew up attending a church that viewed homosexuality as a sin, but my personal feelings would alw ...

Blind Conformity: Malcolm X
... to enhance ourselves as humans. Known for having strong
opinions, Malcolm X seems to be an unlikely victim of blind conformity. However,
as shown in his essay, My First Conk, Malcolm X, in fact, was victimized by this
malignant disease. Straightening black hair, though, is just one impulse that
is bought on by blind conformity. Changing one's self to look or behave like
another because it is more desired by the public is due to a disregarding of one'
s self-claimed morals and values, an over emphasis of the media and outside
opinions, and an insecurity which most of us unfortunately have.
In My First Conk, Malcolm X assured that black people were b ...

Jesus And Youths In America

foster these religious ideals? (And while we're at it, why not make a
contribution to the two billion dollar tax-free Christian Broadcasting Network?)
The manifest function here of religion is to provide people with a
unifying belief that will scare kids into behaving so they do not go to Hell.
The latent function is that it is a slap in the face to every Easterner who has
conducted themselves in a productive and positive manner. Many of the Christian
right I am sure do not realize how offensive the notion is that Christianity is
the only faith to recognize that killing and stealing are bad.
What exactly are the "norms" that are so exclusive to Christianit ...

Underage Drinking: A Big Problem
... within half an hour he can have the drink of
his choice" (Frerking). Because underage drinking is such a problem in today's
society, measures must be taken to reduce the problem.
One solution to the problem of underage drinking is to lower the
drinking age from 21 years down to 18 or 19 years. At first glance, this seems
like a good idea because a large portion of underage drinkers, mainly college
students, would now no longer be underage and would be able to drink legally.
Problem solved, or is it? According to Reginald Smart, in 1971 the Canadian
province of Ontario lowered its drinking age from 21 years to 18 years, thinking
this would help alleviate its u ...

Multiculturalism
... People may be
shocked but it's true because we are a free country and allow lots of
immigrants in. The fact is that we may have to close our doors to immigrants
because sooner or later the social system will break down. We will not be
regarded as the great free country that accepts so many immigrants.Although I
hope we do not come to this point,I fear it will happen. Language is a part of
multiculturalism. Evidence of this can be found in some many cities and towns.
You will see signs in English or French and under them, you will see German ,
Japanese ,Arabic etc..Other examples of this are newspapers and media
productions in varying languages. People that hav ...
