Friendships
... some form or another. If one is involved in community life, marriage, or plainly has a family in general, friendship will cross the path.
This paper will deal with the Aristotelian notion of friendship and the role of friendship in the good life. The paper will answer questions like what Aristotle meant by friendship, what kind of exists, and why we need friends.
Throughout our life we get into different kinds of relationships. Some relationships we cannot choose like family ties. These are relationships we are born in, and we cannot break them anymore than we can stop breathing. Even denying their existence does not change the fact that your mother and father, ...

Sexuality
... relationships, there will be
some similarities and differences between the sexuality nowadays according to
the status of both sexes, sexual desire, and sex behaviour.
The sexual desire in ancient Greece and nowadays are quite similar. In
Greek myths, Zeus is a sexually-active person, “It has been estimated that,
besides his legal wife Hera, Zeus had over 100 women.” (Reinhold,80) Poseidon is
also sexually obtrusive. For instance, Poseidon loved Demeter. When Demeter
transformed herself into a mare, Poseidon changed himself into a stallion and
chased after Demeter. Today, the boys always fond of dating many girls who they
love. “From the male's point of view ...

Women As News Anchors
... are the expectations of women in
the field, as opposed to the expectations of men?
I am interested in this topic because I once aspired to become a
television broadcaster. I still have inspiration in me, but not quite as much
due to the negative and discouraging aspects I have heard about in classes and
in the media. I am not sure that I could be happy in a career such as this, and
I know there are great difficulties in "making it" in this profession. I have
read about the incredible ambition of successful females in television news, and
it seems like it takes a special kind of passion to want to keep up in the
business.
I kept my questions in mind when gat ...

European Studies
... the beginning of the European Union, EU policy has given emphasis to
the agricultural sector. To this end, a Common Agricultural Policy (CAP)
was established in 1963. (2) Provisions for this policy were made in the
Treaty of Rome. The aims of this policy were to increase agricultural
productivity, to ensure a fair standard of living for the agricultural
community, to stabilise markets and to ensure reasonable prices for the
consumer. (3) This is unusual in the context of the Treaty of Rome which
provided for free trade and movement of resources. Agriculture was ill-
adapted for this approach. Protection was given, not only by customs
duties, but also by a varie ...

Television That Kills
... a group of preschoolers that were shown a tape of a man hitting a doll (Leland 47). "Afterward the kids who saw the violence were more likely to mimic it on a similar doll" (Leland 47). Not only are television programs harmful to Allred 2 children, many violent crimes have been stimulated by TV.
Movies have given people malicious ideas that led to actual crimes. John Leland tells of a man that was a victim of a crime inspired by the movie "Magnum Force" (47). The man was forced to eat Drano and had his mouth duct taped, just like in the movie (47). The perpetrators had watched "Magnum Force" three times the day before (Leland 47). A similar incident occurred concer ...

Impact Of Television Violence In Relation To Juvenile Delinquency
... of a concern about
television's effects upon our children can be found in many Congressional
hearings as early as the 1950s. For example, the United States Senate Committee
on Juvenile Delinquency held a series of hearings during 1954-55 on the impact
of television programs on juvenile crime. These hearings were only the beginning
of continuing congressional investigations by this committee and others from the
1950s to the present.
In addition to the congressional hearings begun in the 1950s, there are
many reports that have been written which include: National Commission on the
Causes and Prevention of Violence (Baker & Ball, 1969); Surgeon General's

Is Psychology A Science?
... above.
Scientific study is a valid way of coming to an understanding of life, and
can be very useful in every area of life. Science develops theories based
on what is observed. It examines each theory with rigorous and scrupulous
tests to see if it describes reality. The scientific method works well in
observing and recording physical data and in reaching conclusions which
either confirm or nullify a theory.
During the mid-19th century, scholars (although at that time probably
termed philosophers) wanted to study human nature with the aim of applying
the scientific method to observe, record, and treat human behavior that
was deemed as unnatural. They bel ...

Title IX of the Education Amendments states that "sexual harassment is a form of
sexual discrimination and is illegal." (What is Sexual Harassment?, page 20)
After the Education Amendments were enacted, women began to see that the law was
on their side and that it was designed to protect them. Women now saw that
-Verbal harassment or abuse
-Subtle pressure for sex
-Unnecessary patting or pinching
-Constant brushing against another employee's body
-Demands for sex accompanied by threats of termination
-Demands for sex in return for preferential treatment

Psychology: Women And Territory
... consequences.
For instance, a gang uses visual stimuli such as graffiti to illustrate a marked
territory. The unreadable words to the average person mean nothing. A rival gang
member may ignore these symbols of territory and hence, put their life in
jeopardy.
Territory is not just environmental, but it is also bodily. A person
creates an imaginary bubble around them. This is considered their personal space.
Some people are allowed into the bubble while strangers usually must stay
outside. The bubble varies from culture to culture. A person in Europe will
stand closer to a friend than an American would. The odd feeling that Americans
experience in foreign co ...

Censorship From "Obscene" Material
... rating council
doesn't give a move an R-rating for having the occasional f-word. One rap group,
2 Live Crew, has already had one of their albums banned because in one song they
used explicit references to male genitals and 87 references to oral sex. They
used the word "bitch" more than 100 times and the f-word more than 200 times.
Although most people agree that we are being overwhelmed with offensive
material, there is no consensus on how to deal with the problem. There are
three possible solutions. The first is the possibility of government censorship,
which would include laws and penalties for breaking these laws. The second
solution is self-imposed ce ...
