Social Deviance
... standards, such as not talking while class is in session. External social control is an attempt by other to control ones behavior. In both cases of social control it involves sanctions, social reactions to ones behavior. Sanctions can be both positive and negative and are generally reflecting attempts to control the behavior.
has been studied for many years and many different points of view. Sociologists Emile Durkheim, Karl Marx, and Max Weber all studied from a macrolevel perspective.
Emile Durkheim uses the basis he believes is the basis of the social structure, collective consciousness. Collective Consciousness is the beliefs, values, and norms that mem ...

Leaders Of The Progressive Movement
... was elected to the House of Representatives. During her time there, she worked tirelessly for all kinds of legislation to help women, while never compromising her pacifist stance. Jane Addams also worked for social reforms, using her position in society to form Hull House, a settlement house for the social and economic betterment of the poor. She wrote many books about worthy causes such as peace, and endured harsh criticism of her work. Perhaps the most radical of the three, Emma Goldman, took her work for women's rights one step further. Although she was skeptical about suffrage, Goldman worked for contraceptive information to be given to the "New Woman ...

Facism
... as a whole against perceived oppressors or enemies and to
create a nation of unity. The elitist approach treats as putting the
people's will on one select group, or most often one supreme leader called
El Duce, from whom all power proceeds downward. The two most recognized
names that go along with Fascism is Italy's Benito Mussolini and Germany's
Adolf Hitler.
The philosophy of Fascism can be traced to the philosophers who
argue that the will is prior to and superior to the intellect or reason.
George Sorel, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Georg Hegal are main philosophers
who's beliefs and ideologies greatly influenced the shaping of Fascist
theory. Sorel (1847-1922) w ...

American Self Perception Vs. The Truth
... movement are virtual institutions in the United States. Such freedoms of
speech and movement are outlined in the United States Constitution. Americans
believe the constitution sketches the "American Dream" which is having a family,
money, and the freedom to pursue happiness. Every American will stand by the
line derived from the Constitution, "All men are created equal." In actuality,
the constitution outlined the freedom for rich white landowners to achieve
unchecked power and wealth. At the time of the framing of the constitution,
blacks were slaves thus all men were NOT created equal. Women were equally
excluded from the constitution as suffrage wasn't even ...

Women's Suffrage
... Elizabeth cady Stanton, welcomed even
the negative attention. She said “It might start women thinking; and men to;
when men and women think about a new question they the first step is taken.
Because of their involvement in the abolitionist movement, women had
learned to organize, to hold public meetings, and conduct petition campaigns.
As abolitionists, women first won the right to speak in public, and they began
to evolve a philosophy of their own place in society. When the 15th amendment,
which gave black men the power to vote, was passed women became furious. Julia
Ward Howe said “For the first time, we saw... every Negro man govern every white

Being Young
... buy spirits before
the age of twenty-one is achieved.
Now, more than ever, fashion seem to dominate the youth's everyday.
Perhaps the reason is that they feel insecure and think that the "right"
clothes will give them a feeling of being accepted by the group. This
phenomen has a negative side. What if a pupil can't afford to buy these
clothes? Will he or she be excluded from the gang? Some schools in various
countries have tried to solve this problem. They have introduced a rule
that allows pupils to go at school only if they are dressed in a specific
school-uniform. But many students don't like these uniforms. They want to
decide for themselves how to dres ...

Pressures Of Society
... It is not always easy to refuse such thing, Marty had to make a
decision and decided he should go out. By analyzing the pros and cons he made a
decision, basing it on knowledge and commonsense, after all going out is not a
bad thing.
But what if there is no decision? What if the person is forced to do something
that he does not agree with? This can be blamed on the pressure of society as
well, sometimes you do something that you know you don't want just because
someone is forcing you. Marty showed such behavior many times throughout the
play. It was not always a conscious decision every time that Marty did what he
did, he based many of his decisions just on what h ...

Generations
... lead to right to opinion
D. Rights to opinion
Generations
Being part of Generation X, I am questioned about my generation's values. Hippies, Baby Boomers, and Gen-Xers all have values that are similar, but my generation is being questioned more than other generations. Values of my generation are rights to opinions, freedom, and attitude. Different generations have different values but most values are alike.
One value of my generation is the right to opinion. Ways of showing our rights to opinion is we have protests about what we feel is right and what we feel is wrong. Another way is the clothes we wear, we like to wear big, baggy clothes but society frown ...

Feminists
... that she and other
contemporary activists are coveying to the rest of society.
When I think of a feminist two pictures come into mind. The first,
which maybe a little outdated is a women like Susan B. Anthony, someone
fighting for real issues that matter. The second is of a women like the
author above, someone who is extreme just to be extreme. To my
disappointment it seems the later is becoming more prevalent within society.
After reading the article I scrolled down the page to where it
listed "more feminist links", the five that were given consisted of; three
lesbian rights pages, and two "neo-feminist pages". Thinking this must be
only a small percentage of f ...

Overpopulation
... working to slow population growth and achieve a sustainable balance of people, resources, and the environment. ZPG is the reason I have become an advocate and they have supplied most of my statistical information. Today’s children are likely to see a tripling of the global population within their lifetimes. These children our are next generation of parents, voters, consumers, and leaders. The choices they make are critical to stabilizing the population and protecting the environment. Educating the youth of the future will help them to understand the problems the earth faces and how they can help by influencing and being the political leaders who can adopt responsi ...
