A Black Cloud
... Klan,
otherwise known as the KKK, possess intense hatred for the black race. Their
hatred is demonstrated by marching in white cloaks in protest and also by
burning the churches and neighborhoods of blacks. Just as Hitler and the KKK
express hatred, the Skinheads are yet another group which have strong prejudices.
These so called Skinheads abominate most races other than their own. White
hooded silhouettes, German Soldiers echoing “Hail Hitler!”, and the infamous
Skinheads are harsh reminders of hatred which exists throughout the world.
In the same way that prejudices of large groups of people are expressed,
hate crimes are committed to demonstrate acts of hat ...

Conforming Vs. Not Conforming To Society's Expectations
... society's expectations. You may not be as popular as a conformist, but
you will probably earn more respect for standing out. Non-conformists could
actually have more time and money on their hands for themselves because
they don't need to spend time or money on things that will help them fit in.
I agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson's idea, "Whoso would be a man must be a
non-conformist," because man is free to do whatever he wishes--we're not
robots that are programmed to imitate. In other words, we have our own
individual minds and personalities and we need to put our uniqueness to
work. ...

"Please Let Us Skate"
... skaters are allowed to skate. There are many places where cycling
is allowed but where skating is not allowed. Why is this? Maybe it is because
people here don't feel that we skaters deserve the right any cyclists, or
anything on wheels, have. All we ask for is a decent place to skate where we
wouldn't have our rights denied.
I have been skating for two and a half years now. Until recently, I have
started to skate with a couple of my friends whenever we have the time to. There
has never been a time where we haven't been stopped and kicked out. This has
been very irritating for us and we still don't understand why we're not welcomed
at any parks, other than t ...

Republicans! Unfavorable Acts Caused The Rise Of The KKK
... to perpetuate white supremacy through out the south. The social club became
official. The members came up with the name of Ku Klux Klan. It was a name
taken from the Greek word "Kuklos" which means circle. They came up with
rituals copied from college fraternities. They also assigned positions to
special members. They were composed of the Grand Cyclop, The President, the
Grand Magi, the vice-president, and the Grand Exchequer, the treasurer. The
Klansmen adopt a uniform. The uniforms were white, long robes, White masks,
And high pointed hats. ( Ingalls, Hoods 3 )
Adopted during 1866-67, the Republican party's Reconstruction program

Sexual Harassment: For Sex Or Money?
... is not normal human behavior, but explicit sexual
influence from a superior.
Take the case of the six-year-old boy from Wisconsin. He kissed another
six-year-old on the cheek. She asked him to do it, and the act was totally
innocent. The first grader was suspended for a day for sexual harassment. I am
really glad that I did not go to that school when I was six. I would have been
expelled. To tell a little boy that it is amoral to kiss anyone on the cheek is
wrong. To punish him for it shows a situation that has gone completely out of
control. The boy did not even know what sex was, much less how to harass
someone with it! If it takes these extreme ...

Television Violence Related To Children
... concludes that their dangerous actions will result without negative effects. For instance, when viewing The Road Runner cartoon, Wyle E. Coyote is repeatedly injured in what reality is considered dangerous acts but never seems to be harmed. During one episode of the show, he may fall off of a cliff, get blown up by a bomb, hit by a car and be involved in various other harmful accidents. Oddly enough, none of these accidents ever seem to hurt Wyle E. Coyote, or stop him from repeating his harmful actions. He shows no pain, never goes to the hospital, nor does he ever receive any attention or affection from those who care about him, his family. Cartoons, such ...

Sexual Harassment
... a thing of the past only has to
ask Muriel Kraszewski or Ann Hopkings to learn differently. Muriel Kraszewski
worked for State Farm Insurance Company for twelve years and was the leading
candidate for an important promotion. She was denied the promotion because, her
employers said, she had no college degree and was too much under the control of
her husband. Kraszewski sued the company and won her case, after a nine year
battle, in late January 1988. She was given what may be the largest sex-bias
award in history: up to two hundreds of millions for 1,113 other female State
Farm employees with similar complaints, and $433,000 for Kraszewski her-self.

It Feels It Just The Same: Animal Experimentation
... would not be at the current stage it is at now. This may be true, but boundaries need to be enforced that will keep animals from being exploited and mistreated, and still allow efficient and necessary experiments to continue.
When discussing which experiments will be beneficial, the philosophical and ethical aspects must be looked at. Experiments that are felt as necessary and are carried out by scientist should not cause any pain or distress to the animals being used in the experiment. Peter Singer’s “utilitarian”(Singer, pg. 79) view, weighs the pain and distress felt by the animals against the benefits derived from such tests. “. . . that because there ...

Blacks, Prison, And Institutional Racism
... throughout the U.S. are witnessing
the institutionalization of their youth. Of course institutionalization is
nothing new to Afro-Americans, it is something Blacks have faced since their
existence in this country. In the beginning Blacks were forced into the
institution of slavery. After the abolition of slavery Blacks faced
institutional racism, that is, racism legitimated by the whole of society
directed against the few of society. As a facet of that institutional racism
Blacks are now forced to persevere the increasing trend of control by the US
Criminal Justice System. Control by the USCJS includes the probation, parole,
imprisonment, and death of Blacks. A ...

Stereotype: Speaking Mandarin
... excited that I had gotten the job on the spot, the next day was a completely different story.
When I went into work the day after, I was confronted by the cooks who were obviously illegal immigrants working in Canada. They started to introduce themselves to me but in Mandarin and I explained that I could only speak English, the expressions on their face dramatically changed into a frown and a bit of disgust. The Manger overheard the conversation and said, "You can't speak Mandarin? Oh, that will be a problem here," with a slight tone of disappointment, I felt offended and was determined to keep the job to prove to them that even though I could not speak m ...
