Told as a monologue, the book describes Holden’s thoughts and activities over the few days which ultimately leaves him exhausted, emotionally ill and in a state of mental collapse. Holden provides the novel with his ideas and emotions; because of this it is very important to pay careful attention to his thoughts as well as his actions.
