Voltaire’s Candide provokes a horrific tales of its characters actions that forces the reader to feel in a strange mood, such as laughter. Although, he instructs the reader to be in serious attention of the story’s point of view. This philosophical tale is based on the art of black comedy.

Exaggeration, understatement, and euphemism obviously lend themselves to caricature and parody as it was presented in the story. For instance, the Governor of Buenos Aires, with his multiple proper names and his insufferable pride is notable caricature. Fully to appreciate his usage of black comedy, recalling from the story, about the baron and his sister – the woman whose beauty had completely faded as a result of her suffering.
