Middle of essay ....honorable man. Not only is he an alcoholic, but he is also a thief. Pap often beats Huck for no reason and has never been a "real" father figure to him. Throughout the story, you never see Pap unless he is looking for something to take or is about to beat Huck. This is illustrated when he tries to get Huck's money from Judge Thatcher. Judge Thatcher doesn't give it to him so he tries to beat Huck into getting it for him.
