Santiago, an old Cuban fisherman. After more than eighty days of fishing without a catch, the old man's patient devotion to his calling is rewarded. He catches a marlin but reaches the shore again with only a skeleton, worthless except as a ....
Middle of essay .... on the line. Although he had his skill and knew many tricks, he waited patiently for the fish to get tired. By dawn, his left hand was stiff and cramped. The fish had headed northward where no land was in sight. Another strong tug on the line sliced Santiago's right hand. That night he slept. He awoke to feel the line running through his fingers as the fish jumped. Feeding the line slowly, he tried to tire the marlin which was two feet longer than the boat.
