It was a Sunday during the second weekend in March. I had been mentally and physically preparing for this day all week long. This was to be my debut game for my community team, Deacons United. I was the second-string goalie. The team had played two games previous to this one and had lost them both. ....

....eads of sweat were on all our faces. The scent of Bengues Balsam permeated the air and added to the heat, burning the eyes. Game time was fast approaching, and with it my nervousness was increasing. The coach told us that he expected each of us to give 100 percent on the field, and that we would get out of the game what we put in.
We ran onto the field, via the clubhouse. I was shocked to see the multitude of people that had turned up for the game. There was a sea of color. It looked like a carn.... |
