Feeding Lacy Lou, dad's pup, meant total admiration from dad. So it was not a thrill when my mother announced the rat had won the good chore. Relentlessly, I trudged to the backyard where I would get started mowing. My brother, elated to be chosen, went to get the mixture of dog food with chipped beef and steak for that loyal basset hound.
