The argument that has sent people into a confusion is whether or not people who are suffering from terminal or excruciatingly painful illnesses have the right to take their own lives with the help of physician-assisted suicide. Proponents contend that what one does with one's life is of no conseq ....

Any religion which preaches that life on earth is a vale of tears, a mere prelude to a better afterlife, would seem to be invitng its adheents to kill themselves, unless it can offer a good reason for them to delay their departure for paradise. Declaring suicide a mortal sin was the Church's solution.
