....hor’s personal view of the rebellion is neutral. He conveys this stating that the driving force of the stream cannot be stopped, but only diverted. Clearly Yeats has come to terms with reality and the mighty iron fist of the British Empire. Fighting for independence is often bitter and drawn out over a long period of time. In the commentary following the poem there is a strong sense of detachment that Yeats feels towards the rebellion. It appears as if he simply does not care much for it....
