No one forced the immigrants to migrate to the New World in the nineteenth century, or any other time. Even in special cases where they were forced, they should have not fallen prey to the weight of American culture. If their cultural and familial bonds were strong then a move to America should ....
Middle of essay ..... Vecoli goes on to say that many south Italian families that lived in Chicago functioned as they did at home. The roles of the men and women, in the household, remained unchanged. This is evidence that they did not have to leave their cultures and values behind in their native land.
Obviously they wanted change, so they knew that coming to the New World would bring about many changes for them. If the immigrants did not like the changes they should have stayed in their own country.
