.... Cordelia’s disinheritance and the banishment of Kent for his “honesty,” Gloucester is primed for manipulation by Edmund. In Act I, Scene 2, he laments the many problems of the world, and he includes the “bond cracked ‘twixt son and father” among them. At times, Gloucester seems to be trying to fight what Edmund is telling him about Edgar. However, the physical evidence of the letter stating Edgar’s plot against him, and the sword fight between Edgar and Edmund later, are too convincing.
