This indicates that he fully believes that he will be king as the witches have said. After the heinous deed has been done, he says "For them the gracious Duncan have I murdered; Put rancors in the vessel of my peace. Only for them..." (III. i, 66-68), thus proving he has acted upon his trust in the witches' prophecy.
