....f 1857, after hearing about this insidious attempt, the native cvalry based in Meerut, mutinied and marched to Delhi. In Delhi, many peasants and laborers as well as policemen gave help to the mutiny. They used the help of the Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar to be the symbolic leader of the revolt.
