If we were to let our lives be affected by fear and inclination, (both emotions), then we allow ourselves to be governed by the world among us, and therefore not by ourselves. Autonomy, self-government, happens only when we are under the rule of reason. If we allow the world to make our decisions for us then we are not using reason and therefore not acting morally.
