In 1833, Lyman Beecher became the President of the Lane Theological Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio (Ward, Introduction). Both Catharine and Harriet moved to Ohio with him, leaving behind their eight other siblings. This was the turning point in Harriet’s life. For one, she met and married her husband there. He was a minister just like her father. His name was Calvin Ellis Stowe. Following her marriage she literally became a hermit in her own house.... |
