F. Scott Fitzgerald, author of the modern literary classic "The Great Gatsby", was not what most people would call an up person. He had a rather dim view of humanity in general, and this was reflected in his writing and most of the characters in the book. By examining these characters, one can see ....
Middle of essay ....e hotel scene. She is the original material girl and focuses on the outward instead of the inward. Tom bought her love with a three hundred thousand dollar necklace, and now Gatsby is doing it with a huge mansion and a lot of nice shirts. Daisy's materialism is typical of the freewheeling era of the Roaring 20's that the book is set in and is obviously something that Fitzgerald frowned upon.
