The first item of discussion in Socrates' argument is the separation of the body and the soul. Socrates gains full agreement from Simmias and Cebes when he says that death is simply a separation of the body and the soul. Socrates, Simmias and Cebes all agree that the search for wisdom is the utmost care for the soul. They derive this view out of the thought that the goal of wisdom is to seek out the purest form of certain "truths."
