Derek
... had long since ceased to notice: he was
already reaching for his cigarette pack. With quick, practiced movements
he withdrew one of the long tubes from the cardboard package. With one
hand he placed it in a precise position in his lips while the other hand
was occupied with first replacing the package to his shirt pocket, then
digging out a half used pack of matches from his too tight jeans. He was
extremely conscious of the fluidity of his movements; lighting the
cigarette with the match was the hard part, and he wanted to look as cool
as possible, smooth and flowing, for all the eyes he perceived to be on him.
He managed to execute the task to his satisfact ...

Following A Dream Toward Freedom
... freedoms? I often wonder what slavery would be like? Looking
in todays society slavery is still the same nightmare it was then. People in
South Africa and Iran wake to this same nightmare everyday. They have no
personal rights or freedoms at all. Everyday they live in fear for their lives.
If its not being threatened by their own government its being threatened by the
lack of food they receive. Imagining the things they go through everday makes me
wonder about my freedoms. Why is it that I can go to my refrigerator whenever I
want and be able to get a nice, clean drink of water. When Meanwhile in some
foreign country some 10 year old kid, who has the same thirst as ...

soldiers who inevitably lost their lives. What questions did they have
about the war in which they were fighting? Was their country worth dying
for? These questions will forever remain unanswered; however, their tombs
will permanently remain to remind generation after generation that some
things are worth fighting for.
Upon arriving home from my trip to Washington D. C, I realized how
lucky I am to have the opportunity to live and study freely in the United
States. If it had not been for the many soldiers who fought to keep the
United States a free country, who knows what the world would be like today.
The courage that each one of those soldiers pos ...

My Freshman Experience At The University Of Alabama
... of my house. I see the quite frequently, and it has been very difficult moving away from all of them knowing that they are all still there with each other. I also miss my parents. I was use to getting all the attention, since I was the last child to leave the house. Now that I am three hours away it is hard to get all the attention I am use to. I miss them all very much, but the phone has proven to be my best friend. I talk to them all everyday, making sure that I do not miss a thing that goes on in Atlanta.
Another issue that has effected my college experience is meeting new people. Meeting new people is usually something that I never have a problem of doing ...

Yet on another tape my Mother said that he had 5 sisters and no brothers that

Now I do not remember all the first names of his sisters. Terry Johnson
Rierson came to America first. She actually was sent for by her husband who
lived in Wisconsin working in a mill. They were married in Wisconsin. After he

Personal Writing: My Uncle
... he died was a day in which he would of usually spent relaxing, fishing,
and drifting of in to his own world, but on this day he drifted away into
a new place which he had never been. My uncle's time had come and gone and
he was now adventuring into new places that hopefully would be as good to
him as life was.
I felt deeply sorried for everyone who had none him and his life.
He was always a person who was willing to help someone in a time of need,
and someone who would always be there if needed. He would also be deeply
missed by his wife which souly depended on him for income and plainly
comforting. My uncle was not a weak man but a very strong man ,w ...
