Dillards Delay
... James was put in a bad situation, does he try to save someone's life and risk his future or does he walk away and do the safe thing? Being trained as a doctor, he knew what to do for a blocked airway and a possible spinal injury. He had the training to stay calm and not panic.
I think that your adreneline kicks in when you are put in a situation like this, and if you have the training you kind of run on automatic pilot. You do what you have to do and don't think about the consequences, about whether your actions are right or wrong.
I don't understand why anyone should have to stop and think about the consequences in a life threatening situation. If you are will ...

Analysis Of Two Stories
... for the story. In “The Rumor” you are told early on that a nasty rumor involving a young husband and a possible gay lover. This made for a good opening and made me want to read on.
All throughout the story “A&P” your given a voyeuristic view through the eyes of an eighteen year-old check out cashier, as he follows a group of under dressed women throughout the store. With this you gain a certain amount of knowledge about human behavior in some form. Not only the girls, but how the young cashier reacts, tells about human behavior as Updike interprets it.
In “The Rumor” I enjoyed being given a synopsis of the husband’s backgr ...

Berger's "Ways Of Seeing"
... at an object your mind automatically processes an interpretation of its significance. "The way we see things is affected by what we know or what we believe." When an image is presented one reflects on their beliefs or prior knowledge causing a sudden blindness to occur. You only see what you choose to look at. By referring to your ideals you ultimately lose the reality of the entire image. For example a person walking down the street sees a homeless person begging for money to get food. He walks away without helping the man as he reminisces about trickery by a beggar in the past. He acted on prior knowledge of past occurrences when this time the reality was hom ...

Shiloh
... with the end result of her taking her own life.
The character Norma Jean fits all the psychological characteristics of behavior change in mothers who are coping with life after losing their child to sudden infant death syndrome. The most common symptoms are anxiety and depression (Boyle 933 par.1). She is always trying to stay busy. First she decided to build her own body up. She goes to the gym or does exercises around the house whenever she is home. Second she decided to take night classes at her local community college. She comes home and writes essays of stories she has read. She never seems to be in a relaxed state of being. These are signs of anxi ...

Our Grandmothers
... are indicative of what a culture believes in and supports.
By the time Othello was written the English were becoming more and more aware of the existence of other races in the world besides themselves.
There had been a lot of travelling and blacks were beginning to be used in Europe for the slave trade. During the time the play was written, the Queen of England had banned all blacks from entering the city. She spoke of them as "Negars and Moors which are crept into the realm, of which kind of people there are already here too many". It seems that Shakespeare is almost mocking the Queen by characterising Othello as a black man who has a high ranking pos ...

The Stranger 2
... Neither one of them was happy nor did neither of them know how to please each other or make the other one happy. "For the first few days she lived with me...she cried allot" (Meursault; page 5). Even after her death, Meursault's mother's social and private life still remained mostly a mystery to him. Meursault comes to realize this when he finds out his mother has started her life over and has a fiancèe he didn't know of, Mr. Thomas Pèrez.
Another element in the novel that further more displays the significance of the title is the relationship between Meursault and Raymond. Before Raymond invites Meursault over to his house for a snack, Raymond is a strang ...

... liberation, but were not militantly political, like, for example, the Black Panthers (Macedo 230). The ideas of the Cultural Nationalists often resulted in the vulgarization of black culture, exemplified in the wearing of robes, sandals, hairspray "natural" style, etc (Cultural Nationalism 1-2).
The central theme of the story concerns the way which an individual understands their present life in relation to the traditions of their people and culture. Dee tells her mother and Maggie that they do not understand their "heritage," because they plan to put "priceless" heirloom quilts to "" (Walker 78). The story makes clear that Dee is equally confused about ...

Maturing In The Faith
... at times and take things too literally that we miss too many points.
To be fair, our faith is “genuine”, as the book also said. We truly believe in God and we all try to live as good Catholics: mass every Sunday, rosary with the family every night, we go to confession and retreats, and we pray when we wake in the morning and before going to bed. But sadly, other than those “routine” elements of being Christian, most of us do not really understand what the Bible says, or what the priests are preaching, or what really is the will of God. Neither do we involve ourselves with other people who are part of the Church. Not to mention, how we seem to ...

Beowulf As A Hero
... eyes of his fellow men through his amazing physical strength. He fought in numerous battles and returned victorious from all but his last. Not only can Beowulf battle with the biggest of monsters, but he can also swim for as much as seven nights, and also stop to kill nine sea creatures in the depths of the ocean. Beowulf is even strong enough to kill the monster Grendel, who has been terrorizing the Danes for twelve years, with his bare hands by ripping off his arm
Another heroic trait of Beowulf is his ability to put his peoples welfare before his own. This is because of his strong belief in fate. If he dies in battle it’s because it is his destiny to do so. ...
