Black Supremacy
... "the
Afrocentric awareness [as] the total commitment to African liberation anywhere
any everywhere by a consistent determined effort to repair any psychic, economic,
physical, or cultural damage done to Africans"(50). Liberation from what...the
white race? Molefi's statement is completely ludicrous; the first copy of his
book with this statement was printed in 1988, in my opinion blacks were fairly
liberated in 1988. Now the second part of his statement, repair what damage?
Any psychic damage which has been thrust upon the black race has not occurred
for quite some time: slavery...not in my lifetime nor separate bathrooms were
in my lifetime. And I am not ...

Teen Pregnancy
... or neither. The arguments for and against this issue aare strong and depend mostly on the morals of those making the argument. To some teens it would be impossible to tell their parents they were pregnant let alone that they want an abortion. On the other hand teens sometimes act on imulse rather than giving such an emotional issue a lot of thought. If the parent were forced to give consent it would assure thet the decision had been given much thought. Though it could also rip a family apart. People react to unexpected situations in life very differently. Some teens think that if they were forced to get their parents consent to have an abortion they woul ...

Justice
... to know peace of soul. The
injustice of equality 10/15/93 The point of this statement is not to say that
envy makes equality. When we wish for "personal equality" with people, we wish
to deny what we really are and allow for superficialness. We become so obsessed
with our possessions that we forget who we are and the beauty of our differences.
Aristole said that "it is unjust to treat unequal things equally". All people
are different, that is exactly what makes us human, so when we treat people
entirely the same, we deny their identity. For example that does not mean that
I should not treat all people with respect, but I feel that even that may differ

Parental Pressure Within High School Students
... are going to kill me” and “I'm going to be grounded for
10 years” many times so when the opportunity to do research on this came up, I
chose this as my subject.
II. How does parental pressure influence students in high school? If there
is an influence, is it positive or negative? I would like to do research on
this because it raised my curiosity. For me personally, I do better in school
if I am calm and have little pressure, but there might be students out there at
Ramapo High School that think differently. These are some of the things that I
will try to find out through this I-Search.
III. At the beginning of my search, I had a really hard time findi ...

Immigration: Problem With Too Many Immigrants In The U.S
... to do something about this problem before its to
late.
The number of legal immigrants should definitely be lowered to a much
more reasonable number. Right now, an average of over 600,000 legal immigrants
are granted access to the country. I believe this number should be cut in half.
We need to focus on problems facing American citizens, such as poverty, AIDS,
cancer, and unemployment. We don't need 300,00 more people to deal with, we have
enough problems with the currents population.
I don't think certain ethnic groups should be give preference over
another group but I think educated workers who can speak English should be
granted passage before a poor worker ...

Torture, Not Culture - Female Genital Mutilation
... ("Female...", 1714). This, however, is not always the case. As one
can see in the following story of Soraya Mire, social classes create no
real barriers. Soraya Mire, a 13-year-old from Mogadishu, Somolia, never
knew what would happen to her the day her mother called her out of her
room to go buy her some gifts. When asked why, her mother replied, "I just
want to show you how much I love you." As Soraya got into the car, she
wondered where the armed guards were. Being the daughter of a Somolian
general, she was always escorted by guards. Despite her mother's promise
of gifts, they did not stop at a store, but at a doctor's home. "This is
your special day," Soraya's ...

What Are Values?
... more than 28,500 of
America's youth have died from gunshot wounds and today, every 90 minutes a
child is killed from a firearm( ). Before people used to try to solve
their problems with their fists, but now kids use guns as a solution to
their problems. Guns are more easily accessible today. Kids can get a gun
off the street just as easy as buying candy from a store. " Each year, as
many as 225,000 guns are stolen from homes, businesses and vehicles" ( ).
Kids carries guns around because they believe that it commands respect from
their peers and that no one would try to mess with them. Many crimes
committed involves guns. Teenagers commit crimes towards e ...

A Woman's Identity
... they are so caught up in being a wife and mother
that they no longer have time to pursue their own desires and goals.
Women are increasingly becoming career women, while raising a family at
the same time. Despite the fact that women have the job of raising their family,
many women also have full time careers because the extra income is often needed
in the family. Some men criticize women for trying to act too much like men, but
women are being forced by society to move between the traditional definitions of
male and female roles, because of the many different tasks they have to carry
out from day to day. For example, in order for women to enter the “male” wo ...

The Family Is A Social Institution
... of good and services. In our society today, other institutions have taken over a part or most of these functions but we have taken a new function- emotional gratification. The more depersonalized our society, the more we depend on our family to provide emotional and intimate ambience to come back to. Our society has moved away from the traditional nuclear families towards extended families, blended families, childless marriages, single parents etc. The key word now is variety where multi-generation households are making a comeback.
My views on family and marriage have remained more or less the same since early childhood. Indian marriage as it stands today is a v ...

Skateboarders Nationwide Restless; A Problem That Needs Attention?
... are exhausted, and go to bed early only to wake up
and repeat the process the next morning.
Skateboarders are mostly straight-edge, which means that they do not
use drugs, or alcohol. This is because skateboarding, and improving requires
almost constant practice. This determination in only clouded by the effects of
drugs. Anyway when one performs an intricate maneuver flawlessly, the rush is
greater than any pot or coke. Unfortunately, this cannot happen when a skater
is denied access to their sanctuaries, there favorite spot. A good example is
given by Johnston foster- "Last summer, me and some friends were skating at Phi
Beta Kappa Hall, the theater at the Co ...
