A Christmas Memory: Truman Capote
... in the house donate a
dime or two. Buddy and Sook make some money by selling jams and jellies,
rounding up flowers for funerals and weddings, rummage sales, contests, and
even a Fun and Freak museum. The secret fund is hidden in an old beaded
purse under a loose board in the floor. They never remove the purse from
under Sook's bed unless making a deposit or a ten-cent withdrawal on
Saturdays. She allots Buddy ten cents to go to the picture show each
Saturday. Sook has never visited one before, but asks Buddy to go instead
to come back and tell she the stories of the picture show. After dinner,
Sook and Buddy retire to a room in a faraway part of the house ...

The Hurt Of Others
... and our class had to move on to another school. The last day came around and we all said our goodbyes. I saw Fred leaving so I ran up to him and we stood talking. As we were talking, I felt sorry for having alienated him. As we departed we, promised we would get together over the summer. I called him once or twice, but we were unable to get together. When I entered grade ten, I found I was making more new friends, forgetting about Fred. Later I had found Fred had buried himself with crime, getting into a lot of trouble.
One day I saw Fred sitting on a bench by himself. I approached him with an uneasy walk..... " Fred..," I said.
" Colin!" he exclaimed. ...

Personal Writing: Court Experience
... owns the Exxon on 105 extension was wanting more money from the state for
some property that they were confiscating for construction. The state was
offering around $60,000 and he wants $300,000. The lawyer for Guge went first.
He went on forever it seemed like. It was over an hour that he went on talking.
Some of the jurors were falling asleep as well as the judge while he was
speaking. It seems that he could have been more concise with his argument.
Pretty bad when even the judge nods off. The judge even got up and left during
part of the closing arguments.
The states attorney began his closing arguments. His name was McKinney.
His argument was straight to ...

I Declare My Independence From Homework
... in extra-curricular activities, and furthermore
it creates a less friendly student-teacher relationship, thus causing
inter-personal stress. Homework causes overall dislike of the school system
by students. Uncompleted homework forces many students to miss undue
amounts of school in order to finish impossible work-loads assigned by
teachers. It forces students to do repetitive work, even if they already
understand the subject matter. The concept of homework is so ingrained
into the minds of teachers that they do not see that it is even bad from
their prospective. Assigning homework means that a teacher must waste
valuable class time going over it when they could ...

Shattered Perfection
... between teaching and guiding a child to do the right things, and forcing them to do the right things. Some of the things they did I’m still a bit grateful for, and I understand their reasoning, things like enrolling me in activities. I found out what I liked and was good at a young age, which was good, but the bad side was that I was never able to change once I started, and being so young and fickle, that discouraged me from liking things that I could have later on.
The pressure to be perfect in every way has always had an enormous impact on me. It has resulted in pressure I put on myself to be perfect, which has caused a lot of problems and stress in my life. ...

Creative Writing: Unhappy Meal
... using only a heated up safety pin
and a bottle of Smirnov vodka for a pain killer.
Amir pulled into a handicap spot. "You can't park here," Aaron said.
"Sure I can," Amir replied. Aaron studied the face of the Bosnian
Immigrant. Amir had fought for two years in the war against the Serbs. His
face was remarkably pleasant, although his eyes looked as if they belonged to a
forty year old man and not a seventeen year old boy. His tan skin and wide
smile seemed out of place when one took in Amir's mohawk and torn black t-shirt.
"It's a handicap spot."
"Exactly," Amir said with a smirk. "I got you in my car, and you're a
retard."
"Fuck you," Aaron said, "I'l ...

Creative Story: Intellegence
... Jewish community whom everybody loved, but he never did
anything extra, out of the ordinary, for anyone but himself.
On the other side of town there was a new arrival to the city. This
man's name was Running Bear. He was an American Indian who had gone to New York
to seek his fortune; however, he soon fell upon hard times. He had lived a life
of monetary deprivation on the plains of Colorado, and had proceeded to New York
by Amtrak with only a dollar and a dream. Things did not go as planned, though;
he could not find a job and had taken to panhandling and sleeping in the streets.
His dreams, no doubt influenced by the fumes coming up from the sewer, were ...

Personal Writing: Going To College And Studying Social Service
... tedious for both the doctor's office and the specialist. This became very confusing to the patients who were used to going to see any doctor they wanted without having referrals.
The other biggest hassle with the HMO's, patients usually had a co-pay, which they needed to pay as they checked in with the receptionists. I can honestly say that this was the worst part of my job, and I know the other receptionists I worked with felt as I did. Most of the patients were quite rude about having to pay this before they even saw the doctor, but if you didn't collect this co-pay the patient would never stop to pay it on their way out of the office. They would make us feel ...

Creative Writing: The Search
... stained and
still unwashed, I found it laying on the laundry room floor. I swore to myself
to let Carolyn know about that. I walked into John's empty room, knowing he
owned some ties. It was just as he had left it, I guess, because I'd never
really gone in his room. I picked the red one he wore in his graduation
pictures and slipped it over my head. I stepped into the bathroom, combed back
my whitening hair, and left for the office.
The early morning sun shone in through the broken blinds that I noticed
hadn't been replaced as I asked. I looked over the pile of paperwork awaiting
me. “Why the hell do I gotta do all these damn reports?”
"Actually ...

The Creation Of The Universe, The Earth, And Human Beings
... a very long time until one day the light was tired and she called to
the dark.
"We must create beings that will give more meaning to our lives for we
must live together for eternity."
The dark agreed and so it was settled. They would conceive two new
beings. One would be female the other would be male and the two siblings
would be fertile and give birth to the universe. The light gave birth to a
god, the first god, and his name was Thrakath. He was the creator of the
universe and the son of the light and the dark. The light also gave birth
to Tria and she was the creator of the universe, the daughter of the light
and the dark and the wife of Thrak ...
